Something smells good!

Posted by [email protected] on October 20, 2011 at 4:10 PM

A cinnamon broom, Pumpkin bread, flavorful soups, crusty bread straight from the oven, and the musty warmth of chimney smoke.  Fall smells wonderful.  Yes, even in sunny Southern California we indulge in the morning mist brought inland from the Ocean, and cooler evening temps.  Who can resist Autumn?

I can't decie what I love most about the Fall... the seasonal flavors that come out of our kitchen, giving us a little more insulation for the coming winter months, or the outdoor family fun visiting the pumpkin patch and local apple orchards.

This is the post where I share a picture of one and a recipe from the other... wishing you the warmest, sweetest, tastiest, most memorable Autumn of all.

Pumpkin Curry Soup

1/4 stick butter

1 cup chopped onion

2 large cloves of garlic (finely chopped)

1 1/2 tsp. curry powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. whte pepper

3 cups chicken  broth

1- 15oz. can of Libby's Solid Packed Pumpkin

1- 12oz. can of Carnation Evaporated Milk

Melt butter.  Add onion and garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes.  Stir in curry powder, salt and pepper and cook another minute.  Add broth adn pumpkin.  Bring to boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 - 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Stir in Evaporated milk.  Transfer to blender adn blend until smooth.  Serve warm.

I like to serve this in sourdough bread bowls (preferrably the ones from Panera!)  As a matter of fact they were served that way at my babyshower for my first born boy.  Since then I've served them at four other fall showers and celebrations.  This is a memorable dinner and pairs nicely with a fresh green salad complete with pears and candied pecans.

Happy Fall Y'all!
