the next hour is unspoiled

“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance.

The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you,

as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied

a single moment in all your life.

You can turn over a new leaf every hour

if you choose.”

― Arnold Bennett

I think this is wonderful inspiration for those of us who may have messed up today and long to do it better tomorrow.  Or better yet, we've messed up the hour presently ticking by and long for the next to be filled with a bountiful helping of grace and goodness, patience and love.

Our home has been LOUD this afternoon.  O, it's always LOUD... but this afternoon is ESPECIALLY LOUD!

LOUD is my Kryptonite.  It's sucks my strength right out of my veins, my bones, my very core.  LOUD, and CONSTANT LOUD at that, does it faster and more completely than any other thing in my child-rearing world. But this quote reminds me that the hour I spent depleted is past and the hour before me is lying ready for us, unspoiled.

I need a change of perspective in this very moment.  Deep breath, in and out, and a prayer of thanks for the healthy little lungs that yell, and laugh, and tattle so LOUD.  They are healthy and happy lungs indeed.

Let gratitude for the blessings in your day launch you into the next hour.  Ready, Set, Go!
