“In many respects I find an un-resurrected Jesus easier to accept. Easter makes him dangerous. Because of Easter I have to listen to his extravagant claims and can no longer pick and choose from his sayings. Moreover, Easter means he must be loose out there somewhere.” (Philip Yancey)
Jesus is alive.
He is risen.
He is risen, indeed!
It is true that I love dressing my children up in festive, coordinating Easter clothes. I love the hunt for treats in the early morning, and the wonderful aroma of a family feast. I love the sound of my mother's voice as we sing old hymns together and the touch of my husband's hand on my shoulder as we bow our heads to pray.
But above all these things, these moments, traditions, and tangible expressions of our faith celebration, it is Jesus ALIVE whom I adore. I love Him because He first loved me. I believe because in His goodness He revealed Himself to me, giving me the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the mind to perceive Him... Savior.
I know that in our Christian culture Jesus is easier to accept in blasphemy or casual acquaintance, maybe even worn as a crucifix, but the risen Lord, Christ Resurrected, is dangerous. He is powerfully dangerous. He is loose. He is roaming more passionately, yes, with greater fervor than our adversary, for He is driven to hound us in LOVE, pursue us with forgiveness; bring us along in His train, tenaciously holding, fervently extending this sacrificial LOVE.
He is loose.
He is dangerous.
He is LOVE.
Let Him in.
There is freedom.
Forgiveness.
Peace.
Hope.
And an eternity of life, RISEN forever with Him.
Risen, indeed!
