I wanted so desperately to title this post "happily ever after". I mean look at my sweet family! But let's be real, this life is made up of seasons, (times to celebrate and times laced with suffering.) In our current season we are celebrating so many joys; peace and calm, increased faith, tenderness in our marriage, and renewed endurance in our parenting. But today's happiness is not a promise of health and ease in the days that are spread out secretively before us.
There will be trials and the consequences of sin (ours and others,) illness and accidents, heartaches and loss. There will be days of darkness and miscommunication, friends will move, and loved ones will pass on before we are ready. We will have days of crying "I believe, Lord help my unbelief!" But today we are happy, healthy, whole, and blessed. And so we celebrate.
My lesson today is to dwell not only on the Happiness of our peaceful Happenings, but rest in the Joy that can transcend circumstances, coming with us no matter what's Happening.
“Joy is not in things; it is in us”
(Robert Wagner)
