When I had my annual writer's retreat at our home last week, Grandpa G and Gramita took my three boys and one man in for five full days of Summertime fun. Board games by the pool, popsicles multiple times each day, and loads of crafts. Brody loves craft-time with Gramita, and the special scented markers she brings out have become a highlight each year. Notice how his nose is speckled with marker dots from each color / scent he sniffed.

Making up for Multitudes

I went to the grocery store the other day with all three boys.  And glorious, glorious day... they actually did a fabulous job.  Sure one knocked down a display by accident, but no one ran off or snuck extra treats into the cart, not one of them hit a brother or cried to me about anything.  And so, as I paid for the groceries, I slipped each of my sons a cold drink as a reward.  They sat down against the wall across from our check out lane, thr...

7 days from right now 5 of my dear friends will arrive to our lake-house up here in Northern California.  Two are flying in from St. Louis, another from Florida, still another from Texas, and one other native Californian.  Most writers, a couple of photographers, and all wonderfully talented communicators of God's marvelous goodness, beauty, and love.

This is only our second annual retr...

PMS - Praising My Savior

Where to begin? I guess first of all I have to brag a bit that I have FINALLY gotten into a workout routine I'm sticking to. It's been 2 months of hitting the gym or swimming laps 3 - 5 times a week. Go me! I'm also trying hard to avoid refined sugars and carbs during the week, but indulging (often over-indulging, I confess) on the weekends.  And I'm feeling so much better emotionally.

This morning, as the children loudly enjoyed another start to a Summer Day on the lake, I put down the dish towel, closed the door to the laundry room, and picked up a book.

"Mom!  Mom!  Come get Tom and Jerry turned on for us please..."  One of the three bellowed from the next room.

Tomorrow is Father's Day and while I already posted about the best gift I can give my husband here, I thought I'd share my favorite gift to make for my Dad each holiday.

You see, tis the night before Father's Day, and I just wrapped up a batch of my Great-Grandmother's Nanaimo Bars.

Making our husbands our heros

Brody wrote a Father's Day card to his Daddy this week.  He scribbled the words, "You are my Hero," and my heart melted.

How my husband longs to be a Hero to his sons.  But like many husbands and fathers around us, whom we know and love, ours is busy tending to the cares of this busy life for our family.  He wakes up early, wor...

ROAD TRIP!

Today I drove the boys from San Diego up to Northern California on my own.   It took us the whole day.  We began at 5:45 this morning, listening to a remastered edition of the classic musical story, Peter and the Wolf.   (I just purchased this sweet masterpiece from
